7 Things Only a Waterfowl Hunter Understands

7 Things Only a Waterfowl Hunter Understands

1. Too many hunts start with gas station food.

Some of it’s good, most of it’s bad, but it all does the trick. Burnt coffee, energy drinks, hardened pastries and if you’re lucky an occasional breakfast pizza – all top the list of preferred delicacies.

2. Hunting waterfowl is one of the most difficult yet rewarding hobbies we participate in.

How hard is it to shoot a duck or goose? Difficult to say the least. But when all the hours put in pay off it is an experience like no other.

3. We have the Fall / Winter time-table memorized like the back of our hand.

What time is sunrise? “6:53am” – without hesitation we reply.

4. Sunset is always too early.

Nothing irritates us more than waiting all afternoon for the birds to show up, punctually, at 5 minutes after sunset.

5. Our gear is our primary asset.

We often misplace things around the house, but at any given time we can pinpoint the location of every bit of our hunting gear.

6. You can never have too many decoys.

What’s one more dozen? Or ten?

7. “They” are universally known as “The Flock”.

We can whisper “here they come” and everyone in the hunting group recognizes who we’re referring to.
